Service and Stewardship are not only part of our core values, but also the driving force behind all of our philanthropic and service efforts. The brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha strive to live out our values every day and one way we do that is by giving back to the community. It would not be effective for us to have knowledge we gain from our values and keep it to ourselves. Whether it be helping someone out on Commonwealth Avenue or a big philanthropy event like Pumpkin Bust—our brothers are always striving to help others.
Here are a few examples of things we do in the community:
North American Food Drive:
On November 6, 1993, Lambda Chi Alpha began a philanthropy project that has collected more than 20 million pounds of food for the needy across North America. Called the North American Food Drive, this annual event has become the largest single-day project sponsored by a college organization. The food drive happens every November and collects canned and nonperishable food to donate to local food banks here in Boston.

Pumpkin Bust:
Every fall, Lambda Chi Alpha hosts Pumpkin Bust on BU Beach—a sort of pumpkin olympics w teams compete in a variety of pumpkin related games. We have everything from relay races to pumpkin pie eating contests set against an ideal Boston fall background. Of course, we host this big event for a reason—to collect money for our local and national food banks. Pumpkin Bust is always a great way to have fun and give back to our community.

New England Aquarium:
Every semester, brothers of Lambda Chi volunteer their time at the New England Aquarium in Boston. Doing everything from giving directions to helping out with school field trips—it is a great way for our chapter to be involved in the Boston community.

Relay For Life:
This past year, Boston University held its second annual Relay for Life. It is safe to say, it would not have been the same without our chapter. Our Relay team rose over $2500 for the fight against cancer and was an active participant throughout the night. We also hosted games with Sigma Alpha Mu and some of our brothers’ band played to a huge crowd. It was a great night and we plan on being a big part of the event for the upcoming years.

Wednesday Night Supper Club:
Brothers help set up for and serve hot food at the Paulist Center of Boston a few Wednesdays a semester. It is a great way for the brothers to expand upon our food drive efforts by actually serving hot food to those in need.
MSPCA Animal Shelter:
Brothers took part in helping increase the quality of life for these animals and even cleaned up after them. It doesn't matter what we are doing, but the fact that every little bit helps.
